Hey there guys I didnt get a chance to make a video for this but today I had a 2004 zetec 2.0 dohc come in to my shop for fluctuating idles particularly at cold starts
And I find that this is a common problem on these model years , because of the intake manifold design. which causes surging idles, high idle, and hesitation on start up when cold
It uses a clamp and rubber boot system that can fail or come loose causing air to sneak by when it hasnt expanded shut. This is kind of the case for vacuum leaks on all vehicles and what causes it but my customer mentioned he goes to a svt focus meet and a few of his friends and members experience the same issue and it goes away when it warms up
THE REPAIR is quite simple and if you examine this rubber boots connected to the head , check for the clamps to be distored and the boots to be warped or dryed out, this is a common repair on these ones. if the boots are fine but the clamps look loose then just replace the clamps. You will have to remove the fuel rail so if so depleat fuel pressure properly
