TPMS

So today i relized ive never talked about tire pressure monitoring systems. its a relativly annoyance for me just because i check my tire pressures weekly. but i understand the usefulness.
the tire pressure monitoring systems on vehicles are newly mandated to say it lightly. As of 2004 certain vehicles have it on all models
the DIRECT  system uses centrifugal energy as the tire spins to energize the sensor Physically inside the tire reporting to the tpms computer or module the PSI of that specific tire. these sensors must report all tires to the module or a SERVICE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM message will be illuminated in your dash. this is usually a flashing low tire light which means some sensor is wrong or broken, possibly just needs to be reprogrammed.
sensors can take a hit from road hazards and become faulty . the problem is when this happens they are usually expensive some shops have aftermarket sensors that are a better solution. sometimes.......
There also some INDIRECT systems that use abs wheel speed sensors to measure full tire rotational rpm to average a distance for the one full rotation at any given speed if one averagely is traveling shorter it is deciding that that tire is low on air pressure and these sytems usually need to be reset after airing up the tires.
Usually dealers are the ones that handles these tpms issues just because they have the proper set up for there specific sensors and types to keep you from having to shell out more money to two separate shops( i.e smaller shops, then having to go to dealer when small shop cant complete the task.) just saying reserch your shops involvement and history with tpms if they have any.some dealers will mostly reprogram them for free to see if that is all that is needed and always check your tire pressures .   the reason for the sensors is because improper tire pressures can severely affect handling, prone hydroplaning, and premature tire failure, along with uneven wear. so most illuminate when the tires report a 25% loss in pressure from the manufacturer specific tire pressure or the ones they were programmed to .
so that's my post on TPMS sensors i hope it was a little informative also if the vehicle is equipped with them there is no way to just shut off the system it is on the vehicle so just FYI , Ive had a few people ask me to do this because they did not want to fix the issue
